Food Trip 29 - Empanada

When you're visiting Ilocos, specifically in Vigan, you should not miss their famous empanada.

There are several places to enjoy empanada but if you want to try the best one, you should ask the locals about the right place. The grandfather of Jay recommended Irene's empanada which he frequents  every now and then.

Thinly sliced cabbage soaked in egg white is spread on the outer ring of a flattened yellow rice flour dough. Then ground Vigan longganisa is placed on the inner ring. To complete the special empanada, the egg yolk is placed on the center. The dough will be folded in half, pressing its edges to seal the sides, and deep fried until it turns brown to golden brown. It is best enjoyed when serve hot and with your favorite dip on the side.

I was thankful because the people at Irene's empanada allowed me to watch and document them while they were preparing this stuff.
