It was during the lenten season this year that we chanced upon this lady who was selling puto bumbong in front of Tondo church in Manila. We asked her permission if we can take pictures of her and her puto bumbong as she prepared them. We got busy with our camera when she said yes as she continued her routine.
She has been selling puto bumbong in front of Santo Nino de Tondo parish for several years. During that time, it was middle in the morning and yet she was busy preparing and cooking puto bumbong. She said that because of the lenten season, later that day, a huge number of devotees and visitors would flock the area. They were preparing the cooked puto bumbong in advance and placed them in a container in order to keep them hot. And when hungry visitors would pass by and order, they could transact quickly.
Even though we had our breakfast at a nearby fast food, we made an order to cover some little inconvenience we caused her. An order contained four puto bumbongs and it costs 20 pesos. Since we had a good conversation and she found as nice, she added an extra one much to our delight. She brushed the newly prepared puto bumbong with butter and added grated matured coconut meat and muscovado as toppings. This was my second time to taste puto bumbong and that time around, the taste was better compared with my first experience.
