During my younger years, a morning is never complete without a couple of freshly baked pandesal. The moment the rooster crows, we would get up from bed and make our way towards the bakery. That time, there was only one bakery in our town and a long distance walk was never a problem.
That time, there were two sets of pandesals that were sold in our area. The cheaper one was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. By afternoon, that pandesal becomes totally hard and needs to be reheated to somehow gain its texture back. The other expensive one was totally soft and remains on that state for even a week. Every morning, we would always look forward to the crunchy one.
Though the crunchy pandesal is always a delight to eat while it is still hot, we would happily stuff it with condense milk. You just can't imagine how happy we were with our new found love. And yes, whenever time permits, I still manage to relieve those good old days whenever I have my fill of hot pandesal. Hmmmm. Yummy.
