Random Thought 69 - Leaving

I truly hate the moment seeing someone leaving. I know that we can't hold the world in our hands nor keep the ones we love around us forever. Time will come that some things will come to an end and our loved ones leave.

I guess it becomes a problem when we are too emotionally attached to people whom we love and care. When we invest too much of our soft side to our loved ones, time will come that we'll find it hard to let them go. And once they are no longer around, the pain and the heartache is simply beyond words.

People need to grow and when they leave, maybe it is but just right to consider that it is for the better. People need to find their own place under the sun and our loved ones are no exception. Since we can't have them by our side most of the time, all we can do is wish them well and pray that they'll eventually succeed and remain happy.

And I know that a relationship that has been nurtured, cared, and loved for an unknown span of time, no time or distance can ever make a forgetful heart. With the technology within our reach, we can always find time and ways to reach out to our loved ones.

My friends, wherever you may find your destiny, always remember that our bond does not end with one of us leaving. Though we might not see each other that often in the coming days, still, a part of us will always stay in our hearts. Godspeed and live a happy life.

Food Trip 68 - Coffee

I really don't have a strong liking for coffee. If I can have my way, I'd rather have a chocolate drink.

But I have a change of heart when I visited the wake of the father of one of my close friends. Since food and drinks are commonly serve during a wake, you'll expect that coffee is one of them. Aside from the fact that it is cheap, it helps keep the visitors awake during their stay.

My friend knows that I am not fond of coffee. But that particular time, it was almost midnight and the air was cold, he served me a hot coffee. Since it is not a good idea to decline an offer, I gave in. I must admit that I got an instant liking of its taste. I found out later on that it is one of those commercially sold coffee.

Since then, I make it to a point to have at least a pack of it in my food cabinet. And whenever I wanted to have a good break, at least, there is always a coffee to turn to.

Exploring Philippines 68 - Marinduque (Post 3 - The Beach)

The sun was still hot when we arrived at the cottage owned by the uncle of Tin. We spent our afternoon under the shade of a tree by the sea shore and our afternoon was a laid back one. It was one relaxing and worry free day for all of us, just spending the passing of time out in the open and staring at the still water on the beach.

By late afternoon when the heat of the sun was already tolerable, locals start to come out on the beach. We were surprised by their numbers, mostly kids and young adults. That time, low tide was in the late afternoon and it was like a party on the beach because every one had their eyes on the shallow part of the beach.

We joined the frenzy of people in the beach. We got curious about what they were doing. Since it was low tide, the shallow part of the sea isolated some water, forming small ponds in the process.  The kids merrily scout the area for some possible catch like crabs, small fishes, even squids and small octopus, and some sea shells. A large portion of land showed up further as the water completely dropped to a particular level and it turned into a large hunting ground for everyone.

A group of youngsters stood by at the edge of the shore, looking for any possible movement on the still water. Once they saw bubbles in the water, they immediately rushed to that part and dug in the sand. Their catch turned out to be sea shells.

We also had some part of the fun that afternoon. We managed to catch a crab and it was my first time to see that kind of crab.  Star fish were abundant, varying in colors and sizes.  Sea urchins were common also but it seemed that people in Marinduque do not have the appetite for this thing. We even experimented taking a sea urchin out of the water and examine it. From its underneath, we saw its mouth and the surrounding teeth within. We were surprised how fast it can move, turning its hard shell upside down and its mouth hidden again from our view. And the last thing that we saw were big sea slugs. It was a bit scary because sea slugs when pressed will emit red fluid that looks like blood. It was my first time to sea this kind of creature and I must admit that I don't have the guts to hold it.  That time also proved to be a mating season for sea slugs because we happened to see several of them in copulation.

And the golden moment happened unexpectedly.  It was the most beautiful sunset I ever saw to date. I could not express my excitement that moment and I was thankful that I brought my camera to capture it.  The stunning silhouette of the people on the beach provide a perfect and moving subject. The moment was simply breathtaking, beyond any words to describe it. But just when I had a grand time, it only lasted for a short period of time. Nevertheless, I was still thankful to experience  a moment so grand and wonderful.

Poem 68 - Your Face

Every time I look at your face
I am seeing so much of you
Your face is a daily mystery
That fascinates me through and through.

When you look at me blankly
It's hard to read your mind
I don't know what you're thinking of
Are you distant or somewhat kind?

When I see you smiling at me
I can feel the goodness in you
I don't know what's in your smile
And I just can't help thinking of you.

When your eyes try to tell me
About things that are hard to share
You allow me to enter in your life
Knowing that I also know how to care.

Maybe it is just a matter of time
Before I can truly know you
And the beauty of tirelessly waiting
Makes your face a wonder, for all you know.

Moment 68 - Protest

Last night, I was taken aback by the news on tv that a group of demonstrators try to maul an alleged freelance photographer. According to the news, the group of demonstrators got angry with the alleged freelance photographer joining their group because he might be an agent/spy of the government. Luckily, due to the quick response of the policemen, the alleged freelance photographer had been shielded from possible harm.

I had some moments with demonstrators and I learned some things in order not to entertain troubles during the course of their demonstration.  First of all, one should be a media practitioner to have an easy access to the line of protesters. Secondly, you should be part of the group or their affiliate. And lastly, you should ask permission from the protesters if they will allow you to take pictures during their protest.

Covering a protest is no easy task and as a photographer, you may get hurt in the process. During the protest, the tension could not be pacified easily. And at any given time, a small incident can spark a commotion and can aggravate the heat among the protesters. If you will be caught in the process, you'll turn out to be helpless victim.

This is an important lesson for everyone who are thinking that covering a protest is fun. Think of your safety first before following your passion.  Those pictures are not worth risking your life.
